Buxton is an outstanding spa town located in the heart of the Peak District National
Park. The world famous mineral water flows at a constant 27.5°C, and the site
was popularised by the Romans who established the first bath in the town. Tourists
have since travelled from afar to the resort which now contains a wealth of hotels
and guesthouses and is ideally placed to visit the nearby surrounding park. Buxton
is stage to some magnificent architecture thanks to patronage over the years from
the Dukes of Devonshire. The splendid Opera House hosts the annual Buxton Festival
which takes place in July and has received some great critical acclaim.
Did you know? You can help yourself to Buxton spa water which flows freely at St Anne's Well
opposite the Crescent.
